Saalex ELVIS 3 Team to Support Launch of Space Observatory Next Month
Camarillo, CA and Rockledge, FL (November 29, 2021) – Saalex Corporation’s Expendable Launch Vehicle Integrated Support 3 (ELVIS 3) team will be assisting NASA’s launch of its Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE), a space observatory that will scientists better understand black holes and neutron stars.
The launch is scheduled for December 9, 2021, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Saalex support team will be providing NASA with engineering, programmatic and technical support for the liftoff. This is the fifth space launch that the Saalex ELVIS 3 team has participated in this year.
Through this two-year mission, scientists will be able to learn about some of the most unusual celestial objects in our universe. IXPE, a joint effort between NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, the Italian Space Agency and Ball Aerospace, will be looking at distant cosmic targets that include active nuclei, quasars, magnetars and black holes. It will also collect data on supernova remnants. It is hoped that this observatory will aid in the discovery of previously unknown physical processes and extraordinary celestial objects.
“It is tremendously rewarding for Saalex to be assisting with such historic space launches,” said Travis Mack, president and CEO, Saalex. “This mission will give mankind a better understanding of the distant reaches of space, and therefore, a better understanding of ourselves and our future in the cosmos. It is very humbling for the ELVIS 3 team to be a part of that effort.”
