Over the past three years, Saalex Corporation has achieved a stunning revenue growth rate of 85%, and increased the number of its employees by more than 100%, to nearly 650.

Saalex Company History

Travis Mack founded Saalex Corp in Oxnard, CA, in 1999. He chose the company moniker by combining the first names of his two children, Sage and Alexcia. Mack, a U.S. Navy veteran, launched Saalex as an information technology (IT) consulting firm focused on software support for commercial businesses, and later focused on pursuing defense contracts.

In 2001, a single assignment with Northrop Grumman catapulted Saalex to a company of 55 employees within four years. Saalex was awarded its first significant Department of Defense contract to support Air Force electronic warfare program systems in 2004. Saalex established itself as an engineering and technical assistance company specializing in systems engineering, range operations and management, test and evaluation, and logistics for aerospace and combat weapons systems.

Over the next several years, Saalex developed an excellent reputation, primarily with U.S. Navy customers, and the contract awards grew larger and longer. In 2005, Saalex won a coveted Award for Excellence from the United States Small Business Administration (SBA), a feat that the company would repeat multiple times.

In late 2010, Saalex bid on the Land and Sea Range Support Services (LSRS) contract, which was awarded in 2011. Due in part to that win, Saalex’s annual revenues multiplied from $5 million in 2010 to $30 million in 2012.

As Saalex continued to grow, so did its list of certifications and accolades. In 2014, Inc. 500/5000 recognized Saalex as one of the fastest-growing private companies at 816th place. In 2015, not only did Saalex cross an ocean to win the Pacific Missile Range Facility contract in Kekaha, HI, it traversed the country to open a new regional office in Rockledge, FL. By the end of 2016, Saalex increased its presence on Florida’s Space Coast with a subcontractor award to support NASA’s Launch Services Program over a nine-and-a-half-year period. In 2017, Saalex won NSWC Corona Division contract awards three times, followed by the Joint Range Technical Services contract as a major sub-contractor to the U.S. Air Force.

The year 2018 was a huge year for Saalex in terms of winning new contracts with NAVSEA SeaPort-NxG, the U.S. Navy SeaPort Ordnance Logistics Support Services at Seal Beach, CA, the U.S. Air Force Test Center Joint Technical Services II contract at China Lake and Point Mugu, and the Early Learning Coalition of Alachua County, FL.

Saalex Today and Looking Forward

After celebrating 20 years of business in 2019, the company won further recognition by making the Fortune Inc. 5000 list of the fastest-growing private companies in America for the second time. Saalex was also presented with the Central Coast Best Places to Work award. The good news continued for all Saalex staff, with Saalex Corporation becoming an employee-owned business through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), as of July 2019.

Rockledge, FL and Camarillo, CA (Oct. 7, 2019) – Saalex Corporation has announced the promotion of Garrison Thompson to the new position of Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, as well as the promotion of Robert Bezduch to Director of Programs. These role refinements are part of an ongoing growth strategy as Saalex transitions from a small to large company.

Prior to this promotion, Mr. Thompson served as Saalex’s Director of Process Improvement and Integration and was responsible for enterprise transformation initiatives. Mr. Thompson has over 30 years of experience in the aerospace/defense, systems development and commercial technology industries. He has led and planned infrastructure upgrades, software and hardware product deployments and strategic operations as a leader in Fortune 100 companies. Before joining Saalex, Mr. Thompson served as a program manager, vice president and business development leader, engaging with senior executives and flag officers as well as defining strategic solutions for technical services efforts. He has also served as Chief Engineer for numerous Army range training and Air Force space lift range systems modernization and sustainment contracts. As the Chief Strategy Officer, Art Glaab will assist Travis Mack, Saalex Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with the development and execution of strategic initiatives. Mr. Glaab has 35 years in the aerospace and defense industries. Beginning as an engineer on the shuttle program, and culminating as a Vice President of Business Development and Corporate Strategy in a Fortune 500 firm, Mr. Glaab has provided leadership in a wide variety of roles including engineering, program management, business development, corporate strategy, and mergers and acquisitions. Customers that Mr. Glaab has served include the USAF, USA, USN, NASA and the intelligence communities. Mr. Glaab holds a Master of Arts in Finance and Business from Webster University.

John Dutton, SaalexIT Business Development Manager, is responsible for sustaining and growing IT client and partner relationships. He has managed business relationships with Fortune 500 companies, federal government agencies, educational institutions and research laboratories throughout North America. Prior to joining Saalex Solutions, Mr. Dutton has held a variety of business development positions at Emu Technology, Fujitsu America, Inc. and Hewlett-Packard Company. He holds a Master of Science from Johns Hopkins University.

David Luna, Safety and Training Manager is responsible for ensuring safe working environments for all employees in adherence to company policies and government regulations as well as coordinating and documenting required company training such as security and supervisory classes. He began his career in the Marine Corps as a Supply Administrative Clerk but retired as a Counterintelligence/Human Intelligence (CI/HUMINT) Specialist. As a Marine, he held multiple instructor and safety responsibilities. Prior to joining the Saalex team, Mr. Luna worked in Afghanistan as an advisor for the Afghan National Army on intelligence related issues. He has a Bachelor of Science from Park University and has been accepted into Texas A&M University School of Law.

Tracy Fessler, Proposal Manager, will be managing all aspects of proposal development for Saalex Solutions. Ms. Fessler has held various proposal and administrative positions for multiple defense contractors and City of Thousand Oaks. She has a Bachelor of General Studies from Northern Illinois University.

The Navy awarded multiple-award contracts (MACs) to businesses in locations across 46 of the 50 United States under the SeaPort-NxG contract vehicle. The government estimates approximately $5 billion of services per year will be procured through awards to special small business set-asides including service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) such as Saalex Solutions.
